The Rising Sun, Mountsorrel, Leicester
For the second Marmite & Chutney review we thought we’d try a Chinese. The Rising Sun in Mountsorrel was not our first or second choice. However we had heard it was a very good second choice for Chinese in the village.
Ordering & Delivery:
We originally wanted to order from the Oriental Chief in Mountsorrel, however it turned out they didn’t deliver on a Friday. Our second choice was through a website called e-resistible. However this was also less than fruitful when they told us about the local Chinese’s and then after ordering told us it was too far to deliver.
It was at this point Indian was sounding more and more attractive. However once Jessica Chutney has her mind set on something there is no changing it.
So, our third and final choice was The Rising Sun. At this point all we had was a phone number. The Rising Sun is possibly the nicest and most helpful take away in the Leicester/Loughborough area.
We ordered Sesame Prawns on Toast, Seaweed, Sweet & Sour Cantonese Pork, Roast Duck with Mushrooms, a Mixed Vegetables Curry, Mushroom Chow Mein, Egg fried rice & Mushroom fried rice.
They told us delivery would take roughly 20 mins. It actually took 35, however in all fairness Jess lives in what can only be described as a labyrinth. However despite taking an extra 15 minuites everything was warm. Which was nice.
Food:

Sesame Prawns on Toast:
“I like prawns. I love prawn, but I’m just not that keen on the toast.”, said Chutney. From what I got from Jess, everything was perfect, even the toast. At a glance the toast and the sesame were perfectly toasted and almost made me turn.
Final word from Chutney - Alright.

Seaweed:
I have never ever tried seaweed before. I did near smoke the stuff in a spliff once, but that’s a different story. To be honest I was expecting it to be very soggy and very very bitter… WRONG. Turns out seaweed is crispy and sweet. All I can say is this is a must if you’ve never tried it before.
Final word from Marmite - Yum

Jessica Chutney’s Main – Sweet & Sour Cantonese Pork, Roast Duck with Mushrooms & Egg fried rice: The sweet & sour Cantonese pork was really nice. The sweet and sour sauce was fantastic; Sort of sauce you really want to dip your chips in.
The roast duck was absolutely gorgeous, best duck I have ever had. Usually I tend to find that duck is dry, stringy and chewy, however this was just perfect. The sauce was like a beautiful gravy. Not too rich and at the same time not too bland.
Finally, the rice was beautifully fried and wasn’t too greasy.
Final word from Chutney - Gorgeous

Chris Marmite’s Main – Mixed Vegetables Curry & Mushroom fried rice:
I’ve never really been a massive fan of Chinese food, but I went into this review with an open mind and wanted to try things I’d never tried before. However, my optimism was soon dashed, as all they had available for a main was vegetable curry. Saying that, the vegetable curry was possibly one of the best curries I have ever had in my life. The sauce in texture was like a beautiful gravy which had a sharp after taste like vinegar only it wasn’t sour. The veg was beautifully tender and the rice was bang on. All in all I’m surprised that a Chinese curry was able to go head to head with some of the best Indian curries I’ve had.
Final word from Marmite - Epic

The Morning After – Mushroom Chow Mein:
I left the Mushroom Chow Mein till the morning and ate it whilst writing this review. Possibly not the most professional thing to do, but let’s be honest there was a lot of food. After 30 seconds in the microwave the noodles sprang to life with some beautiful flavours. I have never had chow mein before due to not actually knowing what was in it. However, since I was trying to go into this with an open mind I thought, whatever doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. The noodles were beautifully cooked and the mushrooms were tender. If I’m ever walking by The Rising Sun again I’m getting myself some £3.80’s worth of noodles.
Final word from Marmite - Amazing

Overall Verdict:
The Rising Sun in Mountsorrel is possibly one of the nicest Chinese’s I have ever been to. Service when ordering and delivering was top dollar and the food was beautifully cooked and warm when delivered. After what we had to eat last week, this was like heaven. If you live in either Leicester or Loughborough you really need to try this Chinese as the food is what can only be described as a masterpiece.
Final word from Marmite - Orgasmic
Final word from Chutney - Perfect
